Playing with shapes and manipulating your silhouette can take your outfits from good to great without the fuss. And this was one of the big fashion trends we saw on the runway for Spring Summer 2024. Featured on the catwalks of Bottega Veneta, Dolce and Gabbanna, Balenciaga and Rick Owens to name but a few, but how can you recreate the look in real life?
To achieve this trend in Spring Summer I would think about layering more structured pieces over your floaty dresses for example, as the juxtaposition in shape will really allow those structured edges to stand out. Something as simple as a classic white dress could be brought up to date by layering an oversized blazer over the top. Cinch in the waist with a wide belt to accentuate the volume at your shoulders, and it’ll also create an hourglass shape overall. You don’t have to go full on puff ball to create volume within your outfits, and often it’s those little tweaks to a look that can make all the difference.
Like many years before, oversized pieces will still be reigning supreme across our high street but it’s how you style those pieces that’ll really matter this season. It’s less big and baggy in 2024, the looks have a more considered, 90s edge to them this year instead.
In its simplest forms think long column skirts with an oversized tee or a sheer full skirt with a longline blazer nipped in at the waist. This is the approach I’ll be taking to the volume fashion trend this Spring Summer and it’s actually a look I’m excited about recreating.
