They’re a touch more structured than a classic roll neck, which makes them feel that bit more chic — and, crucially, far comfier too, with none of that snug-around-the-throat feeling. A funnel-neck jumper or coat is exactly the sort of quiet, elevated piece that looks effortless rather than fussy.
Mock necks I’ll mostly be leaving — the skintight variety in particular isn’t for me — though I won’t pretend they don’t look chic; I just prefer my knits a little roomier. Think ruby reds, golden oranges, that unmistakable purple one, and lashings of emerald green — a gloriously colourful line-up that maximalists will adore and that even committed minimalists like me can happily get on board with.

And no, you needn’t go head-to-toe in gold lamé; a sprinkle here and there is absolutely enough if that’s more your vibe. 6. The Shoe Trends Worth Knowing
One of the trends I’m most on board with right now is styling leather flip-flops into transitional outfits — and I’ll be doing exactly that for as long as the weather lets me. But once it gets too cold for bare feet, there’s a genuinely good crop of shoes waiting in the wings for Autumn 2026.
Then there are jazz shoes, spotted on the catwalks at Celine and Loewe — though I’ll be honest, they’re something of an acquired taste. I literally wore them to jazz class back in the late 80s! That said, if your feet are a little more delicate than mine, the look can work beautifully and put you firmly on trend in the process.
One I’ll be sitting out entirely is the plastic shoe. It’s 2026 — we’re all trying to use less plastic, so the idea of wearing it, walking in it, or carrying a (probably overpriced) plastic bag to match simply doesn’t sit right with me. A hard pass from me, personally.
Happily, there’s plenty I can get behind. The suede ballet flat is an easy yes — soft, elegant and endlessly wearable. My rule of thumb: choose the one that could pull together at least five outfits from what you already own — if it can’t, it probably isn’t the check for you.

8. Barrel-Leg Trousers: Finding Your Pair
I’ll admit, barrel-leg trousers took some winning over. I spent ages trying on pair after pair and wasn’t convinced — until I finally found the right ones, and that, I think, is the whole secret. Unless you’re very lucky, you won’t stumble on your perfect pair first go; this is a shape that rewards a proper try-on session.
The good news is the range is huge, from the really exaggerated, cocoon-like shapes to something far more subtle and everyday. So don’t be put off if the first few feel wrong — I genuinely believe there’s a flattering pair out there for everyone; it’s simply a matter of finding yours. Pay attention to where the trouser tapers and how it sits at the ankle, as that’s usually what makes or breaks the silhouette.

Even proper sports shorts are getting the fashion treatment, styled with unexpected tops (a stripe, ideally) for that high-low mix that always looks current.
